On Teachers Day;2015
Moinuddin was his name, eloquent, which means---
One who is an aid to faith and for that weens
He lost father when only six months and mother,
When two and a half years old, disgust utter
Libra was his star under whose influence he was born
was able to strike balance between things, so them adorn
In his childhood he was thoroughly pampered
Best and delicious food his aunts to him served
Satiety increased then to such an extent
That desire to eat to him little meant
Lalbagh, Centennial, Christian and canning college he studied
The schools from where he got for brain knowledge feed
He hardly kept good health looked ever frail
But with spirit agile walked like swift gale
His shabby genteel of a gentleman was lovable
Winsome he was and goodness worked like cable
Gandhi cap he wore marking freedom struggle support
Longed Indian flag unfurled at the peak of Red Fort
Cared by his sister, rich and a Raja's wife
He left luxuries, became teacher preferred strife
Under able teachers,Englishmen and worthy Indian
He learnt so well that never went in oblivion
Knew every bit of languages very well yet
Would consult better linguistics searched to get
Even during his school days he would explain to,
His class mates who revered what better he knew
Urdu giants Ghalib,Iqbal,Josh on whom he wrote
Shakespeare,Ruskin,Keats and Eliot he used to quote
He would have been strayed away possibilities were there
But blocked the ways through which vices come near
The only person I saw while engrossed in reading
Forgot his self and surroundings heard nothing
My mother would shake him well being perturbed
Only sounds "HUNH_HUNH"in reply were heard
It’s a saying that hard of hearing is he who don’t listen
He called her mischievously "kill joy" and "busy body"
She knew not English yet reacted upon that immediately
She was sure that those were remarks of dissension
Replied in her own language with witty dimension
When she said something which for him was irritating
"Frailty thy name is woman" one could hear this murmuring
My mother suddenly and early developed in eyes cataract
He attended her well, beyond praise was his every act
That service started after his retirement and not ended
For twenty year it continued that duty he never evaded
Students when erred in grammar he was rude
The situation invariably spoiled his mood
When I grew up I said"They come to you father why?
They are blank and patience you must apply"
But my advises were nothing for him but fun
Effected him never and he paid heed to none
He considered that one word eloquent can cause turmoil
In the silent ocean of soul and fertilizes heart's soil
His writings attracted minds and won hearts of readers
Charged by emotions, sweet words synthesis terse
An article a landmark he wrote on Lucknow his city
Depicted its civilization with rhyming syllables masterly
That article was published in so many Urdu magazines
Admired by laureate, litterateurs it certainly means
An example of poetic prose that pictured past and present,
Of the city in a style elegant each word released scent
There had been debates in the subjects he fixed to speak
Prepared students for and against topic with command at peak
Poetry he wanted must rise on the horizon and shine
He was worried its grace was unfortunately on decline
He wrote that in pure eastern environment achieved
knowledge, and due to that true he uttered and archived
No reservations and trapdoors one may carry though
Clean thinking he activated in mind and heart lieu
Fresh in me his conflict with an authority of institution
Who developed envy and vie for him mounted tension
Stooped to lowest ebb barred the way to do his duty
Incited students to pelt stones on him ashamed mercy
Shattered his opponent all moral values butchered civility
Sobbed my father's dignity on foe's whims and fancy
Charges of gross indiscipline were framed thereon
But Juries decided case in his favor, anxiety gone
During preparation of case on foot went far off to Advocate
As a result of that a serious ulcer grew, made hearts palpitate
He had to undergo an operation to get rid of that sore
Smiled in agony even, and that ordeal he did not abjure
Even in so much anguish legs of his determination did not totter
Fought till the last ditch and with his victory all that was over
He composed a poem in Persian where he prophesied
The would be plight of ignoble who sowed vicious seed
He read the very couplet to the refiner of his spirit
Who endorsed the prophesy, and his heart then lit
The very person was paid in the same coins after some time
He was abused ,insulted by same students punished for his crime
Inquiry was set but he did not side wrong done by students
Rather stood in support of his rival and needed no coolants
Revenge he approved not and matter was before same committee
Surprised members, among them chief asked reason of his favor
Reply not known but as true follower of a great Conqueror Pardoner
Moreover it was the result of his victory over his own self truly
So he was able to perform such deeds diffused light of majesty
At that occasion present head of Sufi order he was attached to
To conciliate him wrote a letter his miseries keeping in view
His words manifesting moral ethics consoled my father
Mind you then he was a kid---the letter drafter
It was between good and a bad a crucial fight
He won that eventually because he was right
He was a staunch devotee of Sufi eminent shrine
Situated in Kakori where one visits to find Divine
From there his spirit attained strange sustenance
That weak physically yet sharp remained his sense
Firm in his faith on existence of God, skeptical never
satisfaction to appease him heavens so on him shower
Ever believed God,atheism he considered devoid of sense
Which should be thrown to be nothing in a burning furnace
Agreed with a thinker's view it "a philosophy which eyes put out"
My father opined calling it a thick dark straying forest of doubt
He mentioned Noble Laureate James Jeans- a mathematician,
To an Indian genius he affirmed His Omnipresence beyond reason
Meager salary yet lavish living he always enjoyed
Because of self complacency which dejection destroyed
He was phenomenal as he guessed correct questions,
To be asked set elsewhere in the board examinations
Told much in advance how much marks the particular student,
Would get that without any variation came, he was prudent
His Hindu students, about their behavior he talked high
Guru worship they take as moral law and abide by
Adored Prophet Mohammad[PBUH]-his courtesy God declares best
Mentioned that while he taught His nobleness rest
"Hand upper is better than hand lower one,"Prophet said
My father preserved the golden words in soul and head
Came to Prophet one full of vices in him with remorse
He said that he wants to leave all but finding no source
Prophet advised him only leave telling lie and never speak a bit
Feared Prophet if he asks about other sin he intended to commit
So in due course abstention from lie turned over a new leaf
My father told the whole to so many, the adequate but brief
He in that way tried to protect us from sin's sharp shower
Made abode for us in the pleasant shady virtue's bower
With emotions sublime for Jesus explained sermons on mount
The precious amount in it of wit and virtue he could nicely count
To protect humanity from ruin Jesus put his life at stake
Inspired by greats my father doing that would never shake
He saw and remained a part of the heroic age
He tried to revive human spirit looked like a sage
He lived and exceeded his inner life and thereafter,
His outer life reflected his vision that was very clear
Merged that in him, stimulated light which must ever run
"O! Followers love thy country it is part of thy faith"
Loved it my father by spreading learning to zenith
"One who taught me a word is surely my chief"
Quote of Hazrat Ali he repeated--Inspiring and brief
Practically proved himself a true follower of Islam
For if wounded is humanity it is always balm
That is what in a real Sufi has ever been grown
chastises us and vigorous for manner's back bone
He had in him nervous vitality faced crucial times
very energetically,on success sang hymn in rhymes
He was genius while encourages a good deed
Penetrating inspirations do to better way lead
I continued poetry composing only because
On one couplet of mine his generous applause
I said therein,"Kept mum I telling tale of my composed heart
Shadowed by worry that lovely face before was shiny smart"
He described state of service class, blend of some relief and tension
Week wise- 1-lavishness, 2-carefulness,3- indebtedness 4-of starvation
But Nature cared protected him from all odd and adverse
Libra was his star under whose influence he was born
was able to strike balance between things, so them adorn
In his childhood he was thoroughly pampered
Best and delicious food his aunts to him served
Satiety increased then to such an extent
That desire to eat to him little meant

Attacked my mother he and she him with couplets strong
In fighting on trifles not gravely very wrong. He called her mischievously "kill joy" and "busy body"
She knew not English yet reacted upon that immediately
She was sure that those were remarks of dissension
Replied in her own language with witty dimension

Week wise- 1-lavishness, 2-carefulness,3- indebtedness 4-of starvation
But Nature cared protected him from all odd and adverse
Infused sensibility to apprehend prospects in time worse
Sense of discrimination and proportion he had
Must possess these traits he desired every lad
His personality had the quality of imaginative mind
His greatness was his in his being generous and kind
Sense of discrimination and proportion he had
Must possess these traits he desired every lad
His personality had the quality of imaginative mind
His greatness was his in his being generous and kind
English language and literature he taught
Spoke with always a unique noble thought
Some of his writings were plagiarized, reaction was his smile
Careless he was of that and smile was his sweet style
Some of his writings were plagiarized, reaction was his smile
Careless he was of that and smile was his sweet style
Skinflint if someone was disliked, bountiful he remained
Hypocrisy he perceived so rejected what was feigned
His dedication to search ultimate made him rare
From veil of radiance that appeared to him bare
His dedication to search ultimate made him rare
From veil of radiance that appeared to him bare
Realities were revealed upon him due to divine grace
Nature rewarded his merits and that might be it's base
They became honest men who followed fixed by him, direction
And if they walked upon that sincerely and with true devotion
As challenge he accepted the student intending to go astray
Dragged the truants to class room, outside to end their sway
Ten chosen Essays a booklet he wrote for student's benefit
In English every essay so comprehensive easy to get it
He expressed"The impact and abiding influence of love is marvelous
As the taste of pudding is in its eating and love is joy's terminus
All world is lighted up with the love-lamp to brighten environs
It is the only lamp to illumine this world always not once
Love is subjective experience defies any description
Words are too short to convey these sweet emotion
It has power to sweeten our life and power to sustain,
Us in disappointments and balm while we are in pain
English in India he believed very essential its retention
For progress and promotion of International integration

Never was influenced by anyone's wealth or status high
Commands of his sense of self respect he never did deny
would become familiar with youngsters quickly
But limits he fixed to what extent they may be free
Short tempered he was reacted on practices wrong
Things set right,he would cool down, anger never long
Suffered but never compromised against his conscience
Tried tooth and nail to end the affairs appeared obnoxious
Made fertile even the barren lands of hearts and minds
Such a mentor, a builder of nation, sagacity seldom finds
In shape of a teacher he had been a preacher of amity
"Me" he denied not but to him lovable was usage of "we"
Gifted all what he possessed to seekers of knowledge
From his abode to Amiruddaula Islamia college
On high moral standard his students, he wished to see
Satisfied he looked if that turned out to be
He preferred to build characters of his pupil
Nurtured in them virtue, pity with strong will
He was highly impressed by Sufi ideology of self denial
Brightened his own self and of others it was hard trial
Love he said is the charm of life and those with this endowed
Owning heavenly gifts "Salt of earth" before them angels bowed
Inculcated among them the spirit of humanity,
Love he said is the charm of life and those with this endowed
Owning heavenly gifts "Salt of earth" before them angels bowed
Inculcated among them the spirit of humanity,
Made them realize, the need in life,of unity
Remained hand to mouth he himself yet helped,
Financially poor students and their worries dispelled
He desired the progress of truth and learning
To spread that light he ever was yearning
He always tried hard to suppress wickedness
That surely in life is a cause of dangerous mess
Outspoken he was no mental reservations he had
Adored truth and detested all what was bad
Insisted that knowledge should be a part of life
Must seep from human beings as tunes from fife
When one learns the regulations available in books
He becomes picture of high views and heed he hooks
One instance I remember flickers before my fancy
Insisted that knowledge should be a part of life
Must seep from human beings as tunes from fife
When one learns the regulations available in books
He becomes picture of high views and heed he hooks
One instance I remember flickers before my fancy
Then I was child and my age was not more than 3
To enjoy the naughty expression my uncle playfully
Made me learn by heart Indian abuses hit one's dignity
Like Parrot I used them for the amusement of my uncle
It continued and went on peacefully only till I fell ill
Physician,a childhood friend of my father paid visit
Injection to cure me he found at that moment fit
Being agonized I had no option but to abuse him
I was never aware that I invited troubles very grim
The doctor departed and my father appeared with a cane
Beat me badly and my hues and cries went in vain
My mother stood silent watching the whole scene
Her maternal indulgence realized in it something green
The action taken by my father worked so much so
That I never uttered abuses till this day never and no
He taught ,enlightened, trained and refined a whole generation
Loved him his students more after completion of education
Never commercialized but taught privately with no cost
He gained in life honor above price and nothing he lost
He has fondness which became a habit to entertain
Without any discrimination and longing for any gain
He was a hard task master while protected high values
kind when found fellow beings suffer and hope lose
Cared all but he was only careless of his maintenance
Wore very ordinary dress yet commanded obeisance
Wrote on literary topics specially on poetry analytical
That rise from metaphysical to spiritual appealed his mind
His interest was to study prose and poetry of that kind
"You give me a word I will tell you the man"
The version he admired and repeated being its fan
The greatest homage you can pay to truth is to use it
Someone said,he hailed and for speech found it fit
"Better to be good than to be a writer good"
He suggested me and I always wish I would.
Said Hazlitt "TO travel hopeful is better than to arrive",
He recalled and in the waters of meaning I still dive
"Love is cool curious and smiling habit of mind'
This Stevenson's definition best on love he could find
Eliot Said"Poetry is not the dumping ground of emotion"
My father emulated that in him picked it to often mention
"Those who rise by the sword should be perished by the sword"
Such words of sterling worth he used to write on black board
A writer, he thought ,not the one who looks at surface of river
Great writer goes deep finds secrets become their knower
His heart becomes so tender that breeze from flowers pricks,
His very being, and a senses he pains of others there intermix
Duty of a writer is to create harmony among different relations
He must rise as a messenger of peace with no digressions
Be a guide to the politicians above vested interest
Then he will be blessed forever if removes distant
One must keep up his mannerism disgrace not nature
Set free steps of sight ,enchain self realization never
Rise from self, control pain, expressive should eyes be
Active zeal,lament not,keep silent,effect then see
Fear not to see bloody sights, incentive did he give
For must it becomes to live when looks difficult to live
It is incumbent upon man to create around heavenly bliss
If heart is effulgent reflection of which Super light may kiss
Writers should use pen to protect the world from peril of war
With their tender expressions terrifying plans they must mar
Mysteries surround confusing and realities are concealed
He focused mind upon them till something to him revealed
He expected men of letters would write to cause springs
So raise mental levels and purify scheme of things
And he was sure that sensitive writers would keep in view
Negative and positive aspects they must describe its due
While presenting grim realities they make us sense bitter
Such writers also predict good which in future might occur
Ides that impressed him, he made them inspiration source
They enters the hearts dislodge nostalgia in due course
He was happy when the students disagree with his ideas
Healthy discussions,questions,replies enlivened the class
He otherwise talked mostly interesting in lighter vein
Made them laugh who in his company looked in strain
He never approved if in natures present there snobbery
For humility is admirable as the load of fruit bends a tree
Deplored he if lethargy and inactivity in someone he found
Tried to refresh his spirit with words of resonant sound
If someone speaking in order to subdue him with verbose
Laughed away their futile efforts and became a jocose
Mental backwardness in his times dominated behaviors
To keep women away from education was among features
But my father never objected when girls of his family
Went to schools, proceeded forward, results were healthy
He taught and stimulated them ,self reliance in them built
His two nieces achieved such that conspicuous is their gilt
"Qamar" and "Ishrat" their names, gained international repute
To them I am sure and happy, the choicest praises ever suit
Through their skills they brightened the name of the country
Their works not only country but added colors to their city
Modern outlook he thought is not there to crush traditions
But to sustain them and to undo sincerely the superstitions
He was for one's efforts that in life bring success
And considered borrowed one in its value less
Progress not in any case lies in piled up opulence
Real progress he thought joy of soul in abundance
For Lord Krishna he had infatuation among Hindu divinity
Diversification of his personality surely adorns history
In prayers he had explicit faith and ultimate trust
So his prayers were granted and removed disgust
He disliked those who remained confined in shell
Wanted they should expand themselves well
The saplings came to ascertain skill in subject
Beyond expectation they attained achieved object
Persist in the hearts of students still for him regards
Even guardians respected as he elevated their wards
My father was a great fancier of popular drink tea
Used to prepare it himself on stove of its high quality
Offered to all who were present that time at his place
Whether students or his friends doing this glittered his face
With wit and comprehensive way explained poetically
He was satisfied when understood him every body
That rise from metaphysical to spiritual appealed his mind

Offered to all who were present that time at his place
Whether students or his friends doing this glittered his face
With wit and comprehensive way explained poetically
He was satisfied when understood him every body
He had his own style and his own forceful diction
Fame despite all his genius did from him shun
Pricked not him but pricks me that often till today
He deserved recognition he did not get, I must say
So called critics did not bother to notice his writings
They consider ,save their own, useless all other things
Instead they were busy cramming English terms as quotation
And endeavoring to make highly impressive their own oration
My father was innocent of the marts where he could consume
Flowers of words his imagination, and contemplation did bloom
In the system we live to discover talent is rare
we must answer this question that is it fair?
Poets and scholars of esteem remained his friends
Who raised high literary ideas bringing in new trends
Fortunate I am that I saw atmosphere inspiring ever
Due to my father, around legendary figures would gather
Three books published one in English and two in Urdu,
Reflect his fine ideas as brisk as on leaf drop of dew
Urdu books were awarded by a state Academy
Expressive, when heard about that, said,"Let it be"
Memory he had sharp digested all what he read
Uttered so lucidly penetrated into minds what he said
I heard from the students present then an occurrence
Annual inspection was going on in school, all were tense
He was confidently explaining Gandhi's "Stealing and Atonement"
Inspector of schools, entered, heard, tears in eyes back he went
Lean and thin he was but has heart full of vigor
Daring he was when he sided right with no fear
Breathed though in the horrid period of country's partition
No option he sought strongly stuck around his Nation
He never joined any group having communal touch
With his true patriotism he lived and by that made much
Sustained the journey of his life very honorably
Kept his mind from lust for wealth and ego free
As challenge he took up the students strayed away
Dragged to class room, the truants, with no delay
Delicious eatables he ate less provided to others more
That tells the tale of his generous heart it lived in core
Intrinsic music his words had, in my ears they still ring
His presence created in the atmosphere happiness abounding
Raised and exhilarated the morale of those who found not,
Real happiness,he impelled, which to him his self sacrifice brought
From his sacredness sprang up pure water of perpetual felicity
Germinated contentment in those, sad and down, spirit of alacrity
He was brought up in Lucknow, absorbed it in his emotion
So he is remembered for his kindness and his civilization
Flourish of unity in diversity he wished to always see
Flourish of unity in diversity he wished to always see
Ended that as reward perhaps he found eternity
As Cloud he, contained pure waters of sublimity
showers of that grew the meaningful learning's tree
Sided always right cause cared a fig for any authority
Fought for that and saved it at any cost, achieved victory
He made his way mostly on foot with me ,I then was child
On my exhaustion he looked composed and made it mild
At that moment he would read a couplet of unknown
Which induced a new spirit in me,fresh still in mind his tone
Gist of the couplet-"Courage of wayfarer is being strengthened,
By saying, here comes very near the destination to apprehend."
Even when I was grown up I searched his company
Would go with him anywhere he went undeniably
Music is food of love great Shakespeare so praised
My father added, by that level of soul is being raised
He was sure that every existence possess notes of music
So in Sufism it is source of purification ,it is therapeutic
He attended musical assemblies in the shrine of his belief
So became assertive, truthful, benevolent ,heart got relief
Be and it was God commanded, he said,Feel the version
It has elocution of notes infused into limitless creation
Saturated his self with the pure waters of spirituality
That washed his being and bestowed his tongue clarity
He was carefree and without any information stayed elsewhere
At his friend's house or near relative's house spent nights there
Restless I could not sleep a wink at that very juncture
So many perturbing ideas ushered in mind causing fear
Then heart throbs eventually come to the state normal
His reappearance joyous soothed my nerves a boost to my moral
Attachment to father of a son is a phenomenon natural
But mine to him was above that but I think it rational
Very liberal that within the limits he allows students
To discuss, argue the subjects in studies for improvements
Hard work with perseverance were parts of his habit
He wanted his students to do so and should follow a bit
If before him someone reads newspaper or thing alike
Used words he gently but effectively like digging of spike
So that the person realize and leave that bad manner
For in society to refined people it blows like hammer
In my early childhood I developed the taste of soil
I must leave that bad habit was his and my mother's toil
He conceived stories in which he made real ones character,
A sister I liked and he for tale chose her thinking that better
Would narrate- she intended to come here but in the way,
Black monkey told your bad habit to her went back she in dismay
He thought correct the fear of forfeiture of her company
Set me right, compelled me to leave the habit to be happy
Delicate way of handling the matter, he was presumptive
Imaginative enough and with that as well too intuitive
He remembered so many juvenile poems he read to me
Messages for improvement they contained effected psyche
He accustomed me of his absence his perpetual absence
Months prior to his demise stayed away from hence
"One who recognized himself recognized the God"
Agreed my father with this inference of idea broad
Once hundred percent of result of his counter part lecturer
Inspired him, prayed for himself, worked hard for goal capture
And just next year he achieved what he desired so enjoyed
Satisfaction made his face serene, result of labor alkaloid
If I achieved in life in any sphere that is because of his blood,
Even when I was grown up I searched his company
Would go with him anywhere he went undeniably
Music is food of love great Shakespeare so praised
My father added, by that level of soul is being raised

If I achieved in life in any sphere that is because of his blood,
In me swiftly runs, have waves of knowledge and flash flood
In my mind, while writing this poem, a homage to father
Great Amitabh and glory of his father worship appear
Simplicity and grandeur of learning were common features
Mine and his father both were acclaimed English teachers
But star of millennium seeks occasions to mention ever
Either lines of his classic poems or his words full of power
At that time ever prevailing stardom departs from his being
An obedient son efforts to highlight father is worth seeing
Profuse praises are full of true feelings one can find
That stimulated me during writing of the same kind
Similarity of conditions brought that herein as reference
Comparison, not my intention but a different preference
Described I Amitabh and his great father to intensify,
The subject, which may in context be considered high
I am sure that way I could be able to adorn the scene
Harivansh Rai with Amitabh shall remain in history green
I and my father should also be remembered,I desire
For to desire is everyone's right I keep burning that fire
All what I wrote muse seemed pouring favor affirming,
The words induced in my surmise so her tones in it ring
His spirit showered elegance upon me and my ideas furled,
In my mind and by his grace even forgotten reappeared
He was a boon those days he lived in educational sphere
He was adored by knowledge seekers he was to them dear
The abodes of his friends and admirers shined when he visited
After his demise they felt their joys in the air thus melted
What all happened to me still fresh when stay or I roam
In my mind, while writing this poem, a homage to father

Annexure to Poem;
Amiruddaula Islamia college situated at Lucknow India where he was Lecturer in English .About thirty year he served the college with dedication
Came from Arab after being desperate of the terrifying attacks of Turks and Genghis's ancestors of a great saint and scholar of Muslim shariah Sheikh Nizamuddin shah Bheeka settled here at Kakori district Lucknow descendant of Ameer Saifuddin.Shah Bheeka was an accomplished scholar of his time had mastery over customary practices.He expertised in reading Quran in tuneful enchanting tones.Writers and historians agreed to his genius and mentioned his name in their valuable volumes for instance compiler of Tazkiratul Asfia had titled him second IMAM ABU HANEEFA whose interpretation of Muslim sharia has been largely accepted.He was counted among noted Ulamas of the the reign of Akbar the great.The legacy of his learning descended upon his grandson Mulla Abdul Kareem in whom he infused his spiritual powers and made him his successor who diffused all around what he attained and made this suburb a place of attraction for seekers of worldly and mystical knowledge.My father belonged to his lineage and pedigree reaches to Hazrat Ali son in law and cousin of Prophet Mohammad both belong to family of Bani Hashim a branch of Quresh-A tribe highly respected among residents of Mekka .My father had quest for getting as much knowledge as he could because Prophet proclaimed himself as the city of knowledge and called Hazrat Ali its gateway.He tried to be a worthy descendant of his great ancestors.Those who read his pieces of literature called him Charmer of pen.Among his ancestors Mufti Khalil Uddin Khan became ambassador of the then Nawab of Avadh .Titles such as Mufti and Khan were bestowed by the sovereigns of that time.Mufti is one who excel in Islamic sharia and Khan who possess remarkable bravery which would continue in generations to come mentioned in the ordinance.Raza Hasan Khan was a wonder who died only at the age 19 and wrote perhaps twenty books of high order.Father of his mother Mufti Ikram Ullah Afsun was also a poet and was in Police as Kotwal in Etawah.He was famous for his honesty and abstention from wrong.Some gossip mongers tried to label charge of bribe and he challenged that if his horse would eat grass purchased by other he would accept he was guilty.To confirm the same was done but starving horse turned his face and did not eat.My father proudly narrated this anecdote to so many including me.Through the same grand father and from his mother's side he had pride privilege to be clearly by lineage in the family of Shah Mohammad Kazim Qalander who was also descendant of Sheikh Nizamuddin Shah Bheeka and became his true successor spiritually ,morally and intellectually.He established a Sufi Shrine now known as Takia Shareef Kazmia at Kakori to guide humanity and teach the Islamic principles .I feel that a brief description of the shrine should be mentioned so that one must realize that what good qualities my father possessed he obtained from that spiritual system;
Muslim Sufi ideology had been spread by the saints who came from various Islamic countries. The cultural and religious atmosphere of India was very favorable for Sufism which has a power to move the minds towards humanity and philanthropy. Quran teaches us that we must love God vehemently and the effect of which produces love for his creations. Sufis in their effort followed the commands of Almighty. They tried to come near all sorts of human beings and understood their agonies and yearnings. They had the power to absorb the sadness of others in them and infuse a spirit of joy so that a congenial society may be formed.
The spiritual orders in which people enter through someone who has the capability of evoking conscience. They not only make men by nature human but they try to inculcate a spirit among all which they obtained from the teachings of Islam. They had been closely following the religion which was then prevailing over the society. They adopted the good aspects of other religions and amalgamated such views with their own ideology such kind of noble scheme brought the mankind near to each other. This became the basis of integration and communal harmony.
Shah Mohammad Kazim Qalander established a shrine at Kakori about two hundred years ago to spread the message of humanity and to find out the solution of the problems of human beings around. It has captured the hearts so much so that even today the place is famous as a Solace where people gather and find the balm for their wounds and cure of their diseases which had penetrated not only body but the souls as well.
Shah Kazim Qalander lit a candle which spread light of learning and kindled the inner self of those who came to him in quest of real knowledge. Shah Kazim Qalander made his eldest son as his spiritual heir and thus he acquired the holy seat of his father. Shah Turab Ali Qalander eldest son of Shah Qazim Qalander excelled in all spheres of Sufi system. He diffused the knowledge that he attained from his spiritual guide and from his father for a long time from this holy place and became famous almost throughout the world.
Shah Turab Ali Qalander excelled in every aspect of the Sufi ideology his father so long established for which a separate article is needed.
Then came Shah Haider Ali Qalander who was born in 1791 was a guide of the knowledge of the ultimate reality. Internally he was a reformer who showed the right path to the believers. No desire to be famous he sat in the corner as son fixed in the definite sphere and scatter splendor upon known and unknown universes. He attained tranquility of soul due to the satisfaction after getting knowledge of God. After his father he lived for a short time of about 9 years but before his becoming the head of the Khanqah he accomplished so many by his light of learning. During the period of his headship his younger brother Shah Taqi Ali Qalander shouldered his responsibilities and imparted knowledge to those who had a desire to know the secrets of the universe and nature. He was a consummate scholar of mysticism.
Shah Ali Akbar Qalander was the 3rd head of the system after Shah Mohammad Kazim Qalander who founded the monastery. Shah Ali Akbar Qalander due to attributes of universal appeal that he had attracted a large number of people and maintained the spiritual traditions up rightly. Following the Islamic law he brought into practice the mystic way into practice and blended it so happily that it became appealing to all.
Shah Ali Anwar Qalander was succeeded by his father Shah Ali Akbar Qalander who headed the Khanqah for 30 years. He started educating the devotees of Khanqah even during the period of his father and achieved fame as a great Sufi and a scholar. He wrote number of books which became reference volumes as far as mysticism is concerned. No one had written so much and so valuable before him. His eminence even reached abroad and established the reputation of Khanqah-e-Kazimya.
Shah Habeeb Haider Qalander,7th sajjadanashin of the Khanqah. The period of Shah Habeeb Haider Qalander can be called the Renaissance of the shine. He had all those qualities which a Sufi must possess such as humbleness, humanity, forbearance, mercy, love and concord. He was a glaring example of a perfect human being who devoted his whole life to the service of humanity. He was a picture of self denial. Shah Habeeb Haider Qalander was a very charming person as far as his physical appearance is concerned. People came closure to the system in large number after casting glance upon his enchanting face and became his follower. He lived for 54 years and remained the head of the shrine for 30 years during which he toiled hard to maintain the traditions and promote the spiritual system. Shah Habeeb Haider Qalander had no son to succeed him.In his book Adabi Nigarishaat my father described in which he narrated his dream reflecting the spiritual power and with him the abutment of the great saint. When joined service as lecturer in Islamia college Lucknow he became a patient of hoarseness with no relief for days together.Oneof his colleagues wanted a man of his choice to get the same job so he maliciously activated students to complain the authorities to remove his.Being disheartened he slept and Shah Habeeb Haider Qalander appeared in his dream heard his soreness smilingly and soothed him saying you will be alright. He woke up and found passage of throat releases voice blocked finding way to comfortably come out and next morning seemed greeting him. When he went to college and spoke the faces of rivals hanged bending down in disappointment.Shah Habeeb Haider Qalande had only a daughter names Azeezunnisa but since a male member could only succeed the pious seat so after his demise his younger brother next to him Shah Taqi Haider Qalander had succeed his elder brother. The custom was for the time being changed as his own elder son was under age and just started the prescribed syllabus of the shrine. Shah Taqi Haider Qalander was so knowledgeable that he was rightly titled as ocean of knowledge. He compiled, authored and modified so many books of high order on Sufi ideology despite his prolonged illness and so many physical problems. He gave his valuable time to only learning and gaining spiritual perfection and educating people the mystic practices which were hard to follow but he made it comprehensive for a common man. After five years of his tenure he also left for his heavenly abode. Still his son had to complete his studies and still his age was less than required. So Shah Ali Haider Qalander the youngest brother of Shah Habeeb Haider Qalander became Sajjadanashin and educated his nephews. My father joined the very Qadriya order through him Shah Ali Haider Qalander was an expert of Genealogy and his book “Tazkira-e-mashaheer-e-Kakori” earned fame for him. He was a great admirer of the family of Prophet and wrote volumes on Hazrat Ali [the cousin, companion and son in law of Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H.] with authentic references from the history of Islam. Shah Ali Haider Qalander left a will in which he restored the custom that the eldest son will be the head of spiritual system and ‘Mutawalli’ to manage the affairs of Khanqah. According to that will Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander followed the commands of his uncle and became Sajjadanashin. He continued to be the same for 56 years. He left the world in October 2003. During his lifetime his eldest son Shah Ainul Haider alias Zia mian finished the prescribed course and learnt well the spiritual practices. Seeing his abilities his father in 1971 declared him as his spiritual heir and proclaimed him as his great vicegerent. He also had clad him in holy dress belonged to his sacred predecessors. This was told by Dr. Abrar Ahmed of Kanpur who was witness and present there at that point of time. Zia Mian inherited the endurance from him father and it was put to test after he became the head of the spiritual establishment.
Patience and total dependence on God is that opulence which can be ascertained by those who do not have it and who do not have inner satisfaction. Despite having enough wealth to live, people are not satisfied for they are not internally peaceful. They do not get tranquility which satisfaction of soul provides.
Reverse to this situation, some godly persons due to their self-denial, true worship to God, philanthropy, truthfulness, virtues, get the power to not only attain that intrinsic pleasure, but they are competent enough to infuse this spirit into the within of others. Moreover, because of which they have large crowd around them.
However, sometimes they live in wilderness yet people come to them and that wilderness becomes an abode of such people. They are called Sufis and their heart throbs just to serve humanity. The more they render their services to humanity the more they rise high spiritually.
Hazrat Shah Mohammad Kazim Qalander who after attaining perfection from his spiritual guide settled in a graveyard at Kakori district Lucknow, and started spreading the message of humanity, the place is now called Takiya Sharif Kazmia, Kakori.
All Sufis firmly believe and preach Quranic verses in which God instructs Prophet to declare that let them be on their faith and believers should stick to their faith, which clearly means Islam allows no clash based on faith.
Since Sufis are broad minded and loving therefore the people of different beliefs come to them. In Kakori Hindus visit in large number due to the loving and humanitarian approach and all embracing ideology. This Khanqah is a pride of a democratic and secular nation. All heads of this pious institution presented the real picture of Islam, which is a religion of love, concord and kindness, and never allows oppressing the faith of others. It is rational
so it is perpetual and universal. The divine favors are for everyone, for Allah is a creator and preserver of the world known and unknown. This ideology of integration has been successfully practiced and implemented by Sufis, who conjoin all with one thread of love.

Maharaja Tikait Rai a disciple of Shah Kazim Qalander, was a minister in the court of Nawab Asif-ud-daula of Awadh, laid the foundation stone of this monastery and below the ground level of this Khanqah (monastry) intense devotion of a Hindu eternally found place.
The founder of Kakori monastery Shah Kazim Qalander and his son Shah Turab Ali Qalander composed marvels in poetry, in praise of Lord Krishna. Aesthetic perfection of his personality stands revealed in their words. Krishna who playfully showered the colors of ultimate reality through his flute and through his lovable actions with his mates and implied the justification of the pleasant union with the loved one and at the same time separation with the object lie deep in the heart. He is a symbol of selflessness and perfection of love. While in Bhagwad Gita we see the flowers of philosophy blooming with all grace and depth and on the other side we find glimpses of truth in the mirror of beauty and music. These traits of Lord Krishna captured the fancy of Shah Kazim Qalander and his son Shah Turab Ali Qalander. In addition, the poetry thus captured the hearts of those who searched to find the consummation of self. The love juice of Shri Krishna ran in the spirits of these Muslim Saints.
The process of communal harmony goes on in this khanqah, not only Maharaja Tikait Rai But several Hindus have been benefited here. Lala Beniram was a local resident who absorbed the love of Shah Kazim Qalander in him so much so that when after his death his body was put upon the pyre his heart remained untouched by the fire, and it was not turned into ashes so it was buried in the premises of the monastery. This memorable anecdote was narrated by one of his descendents who lights up still the inaugural candle of annual Urs(death anniversary of Shah Kazim Qalander). Centuries have passed but this custom has been maintained by the descendants of Lala Beniram.
About a century ago Babu Awadh Behari Lal became the devotee of Hafiz Shah Ali Anwar Qalander- the 5th head of this monastry. Babuji urged to see Lord Krishna in reality and placed his longing before Shah Ali Anwar Qalander and the desire was fulfilled. He saw Lord Krishna in different adorable facets through his very physical eyes. Babuji lived his whole life in this surrounding and ended his journey here as well.
In the present scenario Sachin Khare, visited this shrine. He became the devotee of Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander. Being enamoured by the charm of this Sachin says that he sought an Ideal and he is luckly to found it. The thick curtains and veils of materialism have been removed. The bright self-stands revealed. He says that he has developed telepathy with them, which is better than any joy that a man can possess.
After Shah Kazim Qalander, eight spiritually superior descendents scattered odour of humanity all around.
In Oct 2003, eighth head of this shrine Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander left for his heavenly abode. For 56 years, he gracefully occupied the sacred seat of his predecessors and served humanity by praying for those who were suffering either physically or internally. He lived with sustained labor to earn his living. He endeavored to get gold out of clay. Besides, worship to God, he himself worked with laborers in his fields. He had the habit to make the barren lands fertile. He harmonized Shariyah (principles of Islam) and Tariqat (mystic way of life). He gave his days and nights to grief stricken people and never cared of his own comforts, he did not liked lethargic people who remained without any buissness. He was always particular to maintain all the traditions of this sacred monastery. He simplified the logic and mysticism and made it understandable to common person with his short but eloquent sentences. Hardly delivered sermons but influenced always the minds. His words had always been valuable, because he uttered things quietly but forcefully.
As far as his intimate knowledge of self is concerned, he excelled high and revealed wide variety of moods and methods to bring about moral renovation in the loosening souls so that absolute sincerity may become part and parcel of life. When we followed his suggestions a refinement appear in the inner self, which inspired us to suppress physical urges and came out of the net of elusiveness of the mundane glamour around us.
He himself had trodden the path of devotion to the Providence and made others tread on it aiming the object which could elevate our soul and which could make life harmonious. He had the extraordinary power to overwhelm his pupil with the perpetual joy, which he attained after surrendering his whole being before the wishes of the Creator. Especially in his musical assemblies, he transferred the very spirit of rapture to those who long for it with the gentle movement of his eyes.
I experienced that he had always been ready to pour the pious wine of heavens into the spirit of his followers so that infatuation may reach to such an extent that all ego, all self care may merge into Real Being whose love should be first and last priority of human life. The divine beauty, light and its color inspired Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander. He himself got the ecstasy and he had exposed secrets of the world hidden to human eyes. He lavishly showered bounties in shape of soft and resonant waves upon the love-laden souls in such a way that worldly logic was dumbfounded.
Assembly called Mehfil-e-sama is special to Sufi sect in which hymns, naats (poetry in praise of prophet) and bhajans (poetry based on Hindu philosophy) are being sung there. These assemblies are held just to form a habit to concentrate to divinity and for abstention from sins and wrong. Those who join these meetings feel that a current of alacrity starts flowing into the veins within. Ecstasy makes mind forgetful of cares and miseries of life and this forgetfulness is the first step to the awakening of super conscience, such state of mind due to exhilaration comes when effulgence seems to force the way to the realm of soul. In such Mehfils Hazrat Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander remained always a source of inspiration. My father though was not regular poet yet there are couplets in which he praised Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander his younger brother Shah Mujtaba Haider Qalander and in certain couplets in Persian, Hafiz Shah Taqi Anwar alias Shakeel mian in which he exalted his personality. He left writing poetry on the sincere suggestion of Nisaar Itavi his close friend and established poet of his time who after going through his ghazals wrote a letter in which in a very refined way indicated the modern trends of Urdu poetry realism prevailed and such emotionalism was becoming outdated. So he accepted with mind broad the advice of his friend.
Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander ascended the seat of his ancestors with mind brilliant, soul purified, sight brightened by wisdom and action inspired by learning. He was the youngest head of his monastery. Before that, he was a shikari, whose aim was always correct. In the darkness even on hearing the sound of the prey, he could hit the target successfully. He said that if a target comes in his range, it was bound to be hit. The same thing continued throughout his life. He left a benign and everlasting impact on large number of people and always endeavored to make the human life devoid of selfishness and full of love. The altruism in him urged him to always have concerned for the well-being of others.
Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander had always been emphatic about the basic principles of Islam and with the same emphasis; he promulgated the idea of unity in diversity. He had always been particular about Namaaz (congregation) and Roza (fast). He was a first head who went for pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina. He said that one must comply in every situation the orders of his Master above. In spite of all this, he tried to raise the level of morality by turning behaviors onto tenderness, affection, sincerity and modesty.
Universally recognized journalist D.F. Karraka of Mumbai, remained his devotee for the whole life, which he mentioned in his books Then came Hazrat Ali. Maulana Sayed Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi- a great scholar of Islamic theology had great deal of respect for Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander. The spiritual order of the family of Ali Mian has been saved and preserved here in this khanqah, as his one of his ancestors authorized Shah Kazim Qalander to use it while admitting a disciple in the fold. That authority remains with every head of this monastery.
Maulana Shah Zaid Abul Hasan Farooqui of dargah Abulkhair Delhi, Khwaja Hasan Sani Nizami of dargah Nizamuddin Aulia, Deewan Sayed Zainul Abidin of dargah Ajmer Shareef and so many Sufis of high order cherished reverence for the outstanding character and life of the head of this shrine.
Wise, farsighted, large hearted, with deep insight into human nature Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander always showed his disciples the right direction and suggested them to remain away from hatred, revenge, envy, ruthlessness and idleness. On every occasion when he admitted anyone in his spiritual order, he would ask him not to hurt your fellow beings by your hand or by your tongue. He was always compassionate and courteous to even those who were not true to him. He never disappointed the people come for getting his favor which they thought could solve their problems.
Once very pathetically, he described his physical inabilities persisting pain due to arthritis and heart ailment. Regardless of all, he would hear others and supplied the wants considering that by doing this he might get good wishes and prayers which might please his Lord above who may pardon him and life after death may become beautiful. For 56 years, he served the khanqah and commanded respect from all sorts of people.
Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander in the pious assembly provided elixir to the souls of the people who came to discover the reality of Providence and provided it with the effect of music and songs full of devotion and love which produce hilarity in him and he soared high and reached to the world of fancy as a result of which he got hints that a divine light might force its way in the realm of his vision. That excites joy in him which diffused grace all around and at that moment an infatuation for Unseen Beauty Strengthened faith and tranquility of mind prevails over the self of seekers. Such occasions occurred so many time but once it was special for me. The annual Urs was going on and sacred assembly was at its best. I reached near him while the following couplets of Hasrat mohani were being sung:
Khirad kaa name junoon pad gaya junoon ka khirad,
Jo chahe apka husne karishma saaz kare
( sagacity assumed the name of frenzy and frenzy of sagacity,
Bravo! thy beauty of miracle can make anything possible.)
His eyes and lips smiled and he took hold of my hands. Yes there was nobody who shared this boundary with me. It is beyond explanation for explanation will destroy its charm. On this favor I offered the prayer of gratefulness and that was the only time when I did so.
There was another instance which reflect the similarity and spiritual linkage of Zia Mian with his father I composed the following poem and read it to Zia Mian he asked me to write the same on his diary. There was no reaction from him about the ghazal. Years passed and I thought that the ghazal could not impress him. It was in 1998 that he came to my place and told to me that the poem is sounding in his being. The ghazal goes as under:
Duroon-e- Mahfile yaran wafa shaar biya,
Ba suye sahne chaman shahide bahar biya.
Khusha bahare junoon marhaba sitamgare mun,
Bubin ke halate damane taar- taar biya
Tamam jalwaye husnat nisare jalwaye to,
Biya biya ke tue shane kirdagar biya.
(Unto the assembly of friends oh! faithful come,
To the lawn of heart O! witness of season of flowering come.
Hail! the spring of the madness of love and sweet oppressor,
Look at the torn skirt of my garment.
The whole system of beauty is in full vigor to sacrifice itself on thy grace.
Come- come- thou art the grandeur of the Lord Above.
Late Junaid khairabadi sang it. Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander received the effect so quickly that he was drowned in the oceon of rapture and great tones. His younger brother Shah Mujtaba Haider Qalander was all appreciation so much so that afterwards he explained the cuplets in his own style very terse and very elegant, but unfortunetly in my absence. Those present there described it to me. The mystic meanings onrush of his delight made hidden conspicuous. When the ghazal was being sung Maulana Jalal-ud-din Abdul Mateen danced in ecstasy the whole crowd stood up to pay regards to his spiritually brisk state. It was a very pleasant sight. The whole atmosphere was filled with fulguration .
I cannot forget that night when all of a sudden Zia Mian appeared. That time I was hearing my own ghazal in the voice of famous ghazal singer Ashok Verma on tape recorder. His resonant voice matched with the tenderness of ghazal. I switched off recorder but he showed interest to hear it.
The two couplets which go as under made the situation startling:
“Lakiren mere hathon ki yakayak Jagmagati hain,
Mere hathon me jis lamha Tumhara haath ata hai.
Bawakte khaas mujhko munkashif karta hai woh mujhpar,
Woh apni shan-e- yaktaye ka jalwa yon dikhata hai.”
(All at once the lines of my hands brightened up,
It is the time when thou place thy hand upon that of mine.
At a fairly particular time He reveals me upon myself,
That way he exhibits the shining pride of his oneness.
Hearing the above couplets he kept on asking me to rewind the tape. Gradually he the effect gave wings to his thoughts. He transcended the limitations. He was physically present before me but the direction of his flight was not known to me. I tried to bring him back to the world of senses but all was in vain. He responded not as I delicately called him. I was confounded. I found no way out. Suddenly power was cut. His senses which dared not before lovingly touched him. He opened his eyes and I found the spiritual radiance therein. He ordered- Bring a glass of water, read those couplets blow it with breath on the water drink it and make me drink. I followed his commands. At another time he imparted upon me that first couplet is the reflection of a verse of Quran. The second is the clear translation of a Hadith. At the time of the victory over Mecca people accepted the faith and put their hands upon the hands of Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) in order to show their loyalty to him. At that juncture God declared in Surah Fateh that those who put their hand on your hand God’s hand was upon it because your hand was the hand of God. The hadith describes a condition of Prophet when he was lost in the remembrance of God and could not recognize anybody around and that state was changed. He described that condition in which he had such links with creator that even the nearest angels and any messenger of God could come in between him and his Lord above. Here one can understand as to why he bade-adieu his senses for the time being. My father even before admired those couplets
Zia Mian always followed the commands of his father. Shah Mujtaba Haider Qalander the younger brother of Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander taught him all prescribed course of this monastery consists of Islamic Sharia and imparted intimate knowledge of God as well. The present head Zia Mian thus turned out to be an erudite of the subject and became the picture of humility and modesty, which is the first prerequisite to become a real Sufi. However, he never studied in schools yet privately learned Hindi and English to the level of graduation.
Shah Mujtaba Haider Qalander at the time of making him the head of the monastery uttered an Arabic phrase, which meant adherence to goodness is better than any miracle. This adherence demands on every difficult situation a new and fresh conception to erase those problems and to cross with success always blocks and voids created by circumstances. One has to be careless of his life and make things set for righteousness at any cost. Zia Mian has these attributes in abundance. He has always served this monastery humbly and ego never touched him,.
The noted spiritually rich personalities of the kakori shrine are called Qalanders. This title is given to those who after renunciation of the world and its comforts reach to the highest point of perfection they get mystic power to rise high to the divinity and whenever wish come down to the humanity. They sometimes live in trance but awareness of around always remain awakened in them. They are dedicated to the welfare of the best creation of God and to the worship of God and that comes to such an extent that they forget their own self- self which is often burden on them. Decidedly, God lives in them with all His names, and meanings of that name.
Qalander is that great man who is a reflection of Allah, a pearl of the ocean of love, effulgence of the candle of creator, a drop of the river of love, an atom of the desert of love, knower of labyrinths of nature, out of all greed and desires. A divine shelter, careless of faith and infidelity, knowledge and trust. Beyond time and above confinement. He understand that everything in him is fancy which is the fancy of omnipotent self. He with the help of his absorb ability in Reality ruins his fancies of his attributed actions moreover his self- which is nothing but imagination. He gets insight full of faith before which objects stand revealed with their objectives and he considers all this as the degree of existences and aspires therein to the extent that he steps into a realm beyond imagination and reaches to the position of oneness with God. Being engrossed he under stands in the details of oneness the brief of oneness. From this position of oneness all at once he is lost in the harmony of unity. People deem it that they are round and bend but that is not so. They are lost in the love of God.
Zia Mian has a very kind and helping heart and has no sense of superiority as a head of a great khanqah. Mr Yogendra Singh advocate has close relations with Zia Mian.Yogendra Singh is also a student of my father. He told me that his wife a patient of Cancer was admitted in S.G.P.G.I hospital, Lucknow. She was then on the last legs of her journey of life. Zia Mian just by chance visited there. That was the time she was needing blood and it was not available Zia Mian offered his blood to be transfused Yogendra was little hesitant but he said that perhaps you don’t want Muslim blood to be transfused in the body of your wife. This worked and Yogendra had no option but to surrender. This act of benevolence will always remain fresh in the heart of Yogendra as a famous saying friend in need is friend indeed has a practical meaning in the act of Zia Mian.
My father late Mr. Moinuddin Hasan Kakorvi was his uncle and teacher. Throughout his life he got affection and respect from Zia Mian whom he called Bhaiya. My father was a patient of asthama and at his old age he became very weak. Often Zia Mian came and brought essential items and eatables for him from market which my father was supposed to bring for him and for my mother who has cataract in her eyes and could not cook food. Doing all this he never thought that he belonged to a great shrine and never gave way to reverence the people possessed for him which may become stumbling block in his way to serve humanity. That shows his loyalty to his Sufi customs based upon love for making life ideal. Inspired by the noble traits of his ancestors is up to serve and help anyone be it his own servants work in his fields or in his monastery if they are indisposed or in trouble.
I cannot forget the evening when my father was at the verge of his life. Zia Mian entered then and sat besides him took his face upon the hands my father loved and respected throughout his life. Perhaps he breathed last with inner satisfaction as feeling the very being of Zia Mian near him was penetrating and meaningful for one who adored him. His presence uprooted from my heart the sadness which a son suffers when he is deprived of a loving father. I would have drowned in the darkness of gloom but Zia Mian brought soothing rays which drifted apart the sorrow that was hanging upon me and could have been very depressing as except mother nobody left with me at home very personal not to the common comprehension I felt that my sorrows were dissolved in his with and benign self absorbed therein the vexing heat intended to overpower my mind.
If you want tender words which may inspire your heart go to him. If you need agitated exaltation in your soul find him in overwhelming trance like state, If you are afflicted by the wrong of others never bother learn lesson from his forbearance. If adversity perturbs you invoke his favors. If fear grips your heart imagine alone lion in forest and fancy him alone spending dark nights in his abode learn fearlessness from him. See his attitude towards downtrodden and destitute and follow how he helps them.
Late Mr. Ali Ahmed was a devotee of his grandfather. He lived in the premises of Takia Sharif for his whole life out of devotion. At his old age he was seriously ill and confined to bed. He could not go even for natural calls. Zia Mian had taken up the responsibility of his nursing. He used to clean his body and sores. He kept his mind always the time to give him medicines and to his best rendered services out of which he was getting only the prayers of an ailing person and that is enough for sure.
From the horizon of Arab a ray emerged in shape of Mohammad[PBUH] last prophet of Allah which turned the grass and thorns of darkness into red flowers of fire. His eyes were cleaned by the stream of the water of life. Revealed was the book of sagacity upon his heart Angels encircled him. Stars have drunk the wine of his grace. The one good news about him was given in anticipation by Jesus upon him manifest the verses of the last and perfect book possessing the words of Almighty and he heard all that even in the blowing of gentle wind.
Since his childhood he was conspicuously unusual, careless of his self and looked askance at the luster of life and so called worldly charms around. The desert of Arab was full of vices. It was a world of terrifying mirage- an ocean of red particle and wilderness of scorching heat. It was a place where humanity was lamenting- a time when values were crying. The Arab’s had neither worldly knowledge nor light within out of the population there were burning rocks and inside thundering and crashing voices of bows.
But Peace Be Upon the prophet who turned over a new leaf in the life of people around with his noble manners and sublime way of life. Being a enamored by his lovely personality people accepted the faith that he disclosed before them. He was a reliable reporter of God, whose message provided the tranquility of mind. His kindness made him a picture of mercy and he preached the unity of God. He considered the poverty as his pride. His path was the path of righteousness and he was assigned the duty of purifying the sprit and the soul of human beings. He urged the people to love God Vehemently, he emphasized upon the truth, humility, forbearance, abstention from wrong, fight for goodness, and control over self and meditation which may find link with the God. All such qualities became the basis of the Sufi ideology.
Mohammad (PBUH) was born as posthumous child who found all six directions of support absolutely blocked but he became the strongest prop for humanity. His grandfather named‘Abdul Muttalib’ was the chief of Quresh a respectable tribe of Mecca. His father ‘Abdullah’ died while he was on business tour. His mother ‘Amna’ also left this world when he was only two and a half years old. But nature with all its compassion and with all its grace encircled a being who had been selected for the accomplishment of Gods message. Born enlightened it is believed the Almighty had created the light which was infused in Mohammad (PBUH) thousands years before any creation and so fell in love upon the splendor which shone on the forehead of the body which was made of clay and angels were ordered to bow heads down in reverence before the same effigy of Adam. All obeyed but Satan who was cursed and thrown out of paradise just because it was insult of the light shining on the forehead of Adam the light that would kindle the universe.
It is pertinent to mention here the couplets of Ghalib who praised Mohammad (PBUH) in his Persian Naat which goes as under:-
God in shape of truth stands revealed in the utterance of Mohammad (PBUH).
The discourse of Lord comes through the lips of Mohammad (PBUH).
See halved he the full moon in two parts
The great miracle was of the pious finger nod of Mohammad(PBUH).
O! preacher the shade of the tree of heaven, do not mention to me.
Speak nothing else but the agile cypress like pace of Mohammad (PHUH).
As moon is the reflection of light of great Sun undoubtedly
The radiance and the glory of God, shine bright in Mohammad (PBUH)
Oh! Ghalib- Let God applaud my apostle of love,
That Omnipotent Being knows the heights of Mohammad (PBUH)
All companions of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) remained faithfull to him and faced hardships for the prosperity of Islam ‘Hazrat Abubakr Siddique’ became the first caliph of Islam and tried to sustain the commands of Quran and followed sincerely the sayings of the profits on different aspects of life. ‘Hazrat Umar Farooq’ was second caliph of Islam. His justice is still fresh in the minds of the followers of Islam. The third caliph was ‘Hazrat Uthman’ remained famous for his generosity. Fourth caliph ‘Hazrat Ali’ not only attained the worldly attributes of Prophet but he was inspired by the spiritual knowledge that was perfect in Prophet. Almost all Sufi orders had been started through ‘Hazrat Ali’. He had disclosed the secrets of the other worlds and imported the different aspects of the existence of WISHED FOR BUT NOT FOUND. Hazrat Ali had become the historical figure who posses in one hand the pen as strongly as sword in the other hand. He was a poet of high order, philosopher, metaphor of prudence, a controlled warrior challenging whose strength was fatal to his opponent. The Prophet had given the charge of spirit purifying to him and taught him self denial so that he may get mystical union with God. Infused in him his on spirit and transferred his powers, reflected the images upon his heart which he receive while he met Creator of Heaven an Earth at the night of ascent (Shabe-Meraj) and thus heralded Ali as his spiritual successor by saying that for whom I am sustainer Ali is as well. Further he declared that I and Ali are made of one and the same divine light. Hazrat Ali was very near to Prophet to the extent that when he was departing from ‘Mecca’ in precarious circumstances to ‘Madina’ in a terrible night he ordered Ali to lie down on his bed. The place was surrounded by enemies who were prepared to kill Prophet. There was no hesitation in Ali. He gladly accepted what was ordered. His inner self was so pacified that he slept and in the morning he showed his unawareness about the Prophet and direction towards which he proceeded this reflects the favour of the Prophet towards ‘Ali’ and a declaration that he is among the aid-de-camp of Islam. All the plans of infidelity vanished and brelliance of ‘Hazrat Ali’ defeated the darkness of wrong. The way he uprooted the gate of ‘Khaibar’ he tried to uproot the vices from the human life.
We have so many instances which disclose that Prophet had given hints of recognising the extraordinary qualities of ‘Hazrat Ali’. During the battle of ‘Khaibar’ once Prophet declared that he will hand over the flag to one who loves God and who is loved by God. The very person will bring victory. Everyone around was curious to know that who is that fortunate man. At last the flag was given to ‘Hazrat Ali’ who by his hands uprooted the huge the gate of the folt of ‘Khaibar’. The battle was won and valour of Hazrat Ali reflected the inspired devine strength which was transfused by Prophet in him.
Keeping in view such merits the spritual heir ship was confirmed to him. He became the running fountain and heavenly intelligence have been developed in him. Holding his hands Prophet transferred the spritual powers to him.
We must clearly understand that climax point of prophet hood is the point of beginning of spiritualism. All spiritual orders reach to Hazrat Ali and through him to Prophet Mohammad to be ablest by his splendor and never ending grace. The fixed fast color of the excellent qualities of Prophet had become the essence of the personality of Hazrat Ali who was tinged by all shades of those colors. He was the taught by Prophet the lessons of humanity, love, concord, justice, Intellect, Majesty, high mindedness and all noble manners which may refine the human society.
The same lessons were learnt by the Sufis one by one they spread that message among the human beings crossed the border lines of the countries. Hazrat Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti came to India. Settled here showed to the people the real sprit of Islam. The soil of India was very fertile for the prosperity of message of the Sufis and there way of raising soul high.
We are concerned with the particular mystic way in the light of which we discover a knower of God called Qalander. So till Zia Mian following is the order which has to be kept in mind:-
Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H)
Hazrat Ali (Fourth caliph of Islam, cousin and son in law of Prophet)
Sheikh Abdul Aziz Makki Qalander

Hazrat Shah Habeeb Haider Qalander
Hazrat Shah Taqi Haider Qalander
Hazrat Shah Ali Haider Qalander
Hazrat Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander
Hazrat Shah Ainul Haider Qalander
Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Azeez Makki is considered to be the first obtained the title of Qalander. He was among the progency of Gods messenger Saleh and a companion of Abraham as well. He lived so long that he waited for the time of the Prophet hood of Mohammad Sallala-ho-alaihe-wasallam. He accepted Islam and joined the group of those companions of Prophet who were known as Ashabe-e-Suffa. Sufi had been drawn from this Arabic word hungry for days together (companions lived a life of hardships and self restraint renunciation of worldly pleasures). He was educated and instructed by Prophet and his cousin Hazrat Ali. He lived for one thousand years after Prophet. He came to India and lived here, benefitted spiritually so many saints of high order of different times. On the instance of ‘Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti’ of Ajmer, ‘Baba Fareeduddin Ganjshakar’ and ‘Sheikh Bahauddin Zakaria Multani’with certain riddles wanting solution went to the cave in which he was confined being cut off from material word. He came out ascertained the answers and entered into the grotto with a hint to come out at the time near doomsday when Imam Mehdi will appear with Hazrat Maseeh. The cover of the grotto was placed according to his commands. It is believed that Sheikh Abdul Azeez Makki is still alive and through Qalander’s the order is still in progress and persisting in the shrine known as Khanqah-e-Kazmiya, Kakori.
My father born on 0ctober 14th 1914 he left for his heavenly abode on 26th April 1992.From Kinder garden till Post Graduation all his schooling was done in Lucknow.Did his M.A in English and former President of India Dr Shanker Dayaal Sharma was his class fellow in post graduation. He belonged to a respectable family of Kakori.According to the references available in documents he belonged to the genealogy of Hazrat Ali cousin and son in law of Prophet Mohammad .He dedicated all his life to spread the massage of humanity and knowledge .Shrine of Sufis of Kakori remained his source of Inspiration and joined that spiritual order through Shah Ali Haider Qalander erstwhile head of the above mentioned Sufi system. The present sajjadanashin[Head] of the same order Shah Ainul Haider Qalander Zia mian learnt English Under his guidance, always remained closed to him.He wanted his name to be included in among general students but a saparate mention was incumbent upon me and I did . served Indian Statistical Institute for 3 years before getting selected again by UPSC for Deputy Directors post and Head of Biochemistry/Immunochemistry/Biotechnology Dept. at the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) under Ministry of Health, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Now recently, they have renamed it as (NCDC), National Center for Disease Control. The details of research work on Malaria, Kala Azar, Pesticide Research, PhD, MPhil, MS/MD students and various Research Projects by Funding Agencies, WHO, ICMR < CSIR < DST and of course Health Ministry are given in this text.
After I received this offer of Research Associate from Dr. Thomas F. Newcomb, I applied to United States Educational Foundation in India under Fulbright scholarship and fortunately I was selected. This gave me an opportunity to get exposed to higher education and brighter scope for research, which I loved, and this was another turning point in my life. United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) is an exchange program for scholars in various fields. They select candidates from different regions in India after tough competition. The groups are from Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western Regions and from different and varied fields.
After reaching University Medical and Health Center Gainesville, Florida, getting a warm welcome and an introduction to the faculty and other labs, I was given a very challenging project to identify and isolate to purity one of the Coagulation Factor V also known as Accelerator Globulin which is a key factor in conversion of Prothrombin to Thrombin responsible for clot formation.Several laboratories around the Globe were involved but there was no success because this Factor V was very labile and unstable and while processing it, it loses its activity and disappears.
We also stumbled on it for a long time, using all possible approaches. But somehow I always had laboratory luck and things always turned out to be a Miracle in my career. Could it be perseverance, hard work and never to give up attitude that I faced challenges and emerged successful. In this case also after thorough studies of the literature and the learned advice of Dr. S.N. Chaudhuri, we worked out a simple method of preserving its stability and its activity. It became such a miraculous success that it was isolated in very pure form and stability maintained that one could use it for experiment. At the same time a great Hematologist Dr. W. H. Seegers Lab at the state university Michigan, Chicago was working on it and stumbling. They challenged our work and invited me to demonstrate the method. While I was in his lab, they had an International Symposium on Blood. Dr. W.H. Seegers was so magnanimous and great that he accepted our authenticity and accepted in such a big gathering that their method and approach was not correct. They kept me as a guest for several weeks with lots of hospitality to invite me as a personal guest to their home. In the same International Symposium, Dr. Takeshi Abe, Head of the Department of Medicine and Hematology, University of Tokyo, Japan was so impressed that he also invited me to Japan to work in his lab and share my method
. "Our real Mamoon[maternal uncle]Moinuddin Hasan was studying at the time. He became double MA in English and Urdu and later became a scholar in Persian, Urdu, and English. He translated a book by Sufi Shah Ali Haider Qalandar of TakiaShareefKakori. The translation was a very flowery language and in fact during my childhood days I used to observe him working hard on it. In fact, with those memories, I took the manuscript and tried to get it published by Islamic center, Washington and to Tehran on my way back after Fulbright. The name of the book was AHSAN-UL-INTIKHAB, Life and Times of HazratAIi, maulamushkil-kusha. Now he is not alive but his son MohiuddinHasan known as SuhailKakorvi is equally Academician. SuhailKakorvi writes Poetry in Urdu, Hindi and English. He is very famous amongst the Academic circle in Lucknow with several publications and release of a DVD. He is regularly on Facebook with his new creations of Ghazals and other write-ups."Mrs. Ishrat Z. Husain is an economist and has a doctorate in economics. My Mother late Sadiqa Khatoon did not approve his being spendthrift, his short temper and there had been pleasant conflicts between them. She also had very refined literary taste like her husband both remembered couplets innumerable and while there was interesting war between them those couplets became weapon by which they attacked each other-very interesting what I saw.My father wrote with great sense of poetry and literary aspects by deeply analyzing the subject with very comprehensive flowery language both in Urdu and English. His method of teaching was so effective that one one quickly understood he tried to manifest. He placed stress upon correct usage of words and himself was very careful regarding that.
My father had been a follower of guru tradition our Country INDIA ever proudly possessed and carried that on without caring his self or vested interests as a result of which he captured hearts,His students paid visit to his home some of them belonged to rich families but felt honor to serve him, brought necessary items from market cleaned the house and utensils when needed.Due to him harmony prevailed all around rare now as change in trends made education a market affair.Minds are being sold and purchased
For some days he taught English in Nadwa Lucknow after his retirement from Islamia college
In his faith upon dictates of Islam remained firm not simply believed but promulgated and diffused those ideas wherever and wherever found access and chance. He had keen interest in the Islamic history.
The successor of his spiritual guide Hazrat Shah Mustafa Haider Qalander besides relations had special affinity with my father and that benign company incensed his mind and heart by the perfume lived in him and effulgence he possessed. He was a great admirer of his prose writing.
Scholars such as Ale Ahmed suroor,Prof Ghulaam Ahmed Furqat Wajahat Ali Sandilvi, great humorists of their time ,Professor Malikzaada Manzoor Ahmad ,B P NIGAM ,Pratap Narain Masaldaan,Dr Ahsan Faruqui,Dr Shujaat Ali Sandilvi,Poets of renown Nushoor wahidi,Nisar Itawi,Fana Nizami and Payaam Fatehpuri Dr salam Sandilvi etc were his friends valued high his personality and his literary talents. He was loved by all even by them to whom often he was harsh but clear were his intentions that it was for only reform.Spirituality prevailed over his literary works and his life as well.Mr Jalees Hamidi former president of Aligarh Muslim University union a poet and orator joined as lecturer in Biology remained colleague yet ever respected him and still praises loving patronage my father accorded him.
I must mention here names some of his students who occupy important place in our society. They cherish his memories and the sparks of my father's thoughts became huge flame flicker before mine and their minds eye invariably always. They are;Dr Ammar Rizvi ex minister U.P.GOVENMENT,Justice Abdul Mateen ,Zafaryaab Jeelani adl Advocat general, Ahmad Ibrahim Alvi Editor popular urdu Daily AAg , ,Dr Zahiruddin proprietor Seema watch company Lucknow, Dr. Salam Siddiqui writer, Prof. Khan Mohd.
